One of the most worrisome times for working parents is how to keep their children safe and occupied during those long summer months between school years. When it’s younger kids still in primary grades, they won’t be left alone without a sitter or a summer camp to attend. However, kids who are no longer in the primary grades seem to resent being told they need a sitter. They are, for all intents and purposes, old enough to be sitting for smaller children themselves. So, with that in mind, how can you keep your junior high school (intermediary) kids safe while you are away at work and beyond that, how can you motivate them to spend some time learning?
The Internet Just Might Be Your New Best Friend!
While some teens like nothing better than to access all those sites they know are forbidden for them, there are others who really enjoy chatting with their friends. While you can’t give your kids free rein to visit any site they happen upon, you can set parental controls so that they can spend time doing a bit of looking around to see things that have elicited interest in them.
Setting the Boundaries
You would be surprised at just how many wholesome activities you can interest your son or daughter in, and maybe a ‘guided’ tour of DIY projects they can get involved in might do the trick! Before turning them loose on the world, however, don’t forget to go into their OS to set controls on those Lenovo Kids Learning Tablets. Why tablets? That is an amazing mobile device they can carry with them to a friend’s house and in so doing, they might even be interesting in their peers to have fun learning new skills along with them.
A Hidden Education within an Education!
There is one site that comes to mind that just might interest your teen. Check out the DIY.org website to see all the projects your child might express an interest in pursuing. Of course, some of those projects might need the supervision of an adult, especially if power tools are required. Even so, they can learn about DIY projects such as:
- Cooking
- Coding
- Fashion Design
- Painting
- Reading
- Animation
And, so much more. By giving them something to build or create, they will often develop an affinity for that which will become their life’s vocation. You just might come home from work every night to a new project they are working on, so don’t be surprised if one of those nights there will be 3 or 4 of your child’s friends working on the same project with your child. The excitement really is contagious after all!
The whole point is to give them someplace safe online to find things that interest them. Instead of telling them that you are giving them a safe place to learn, show them how much fun they’ll have working on projects of their very own. You might just have the next great architect of the 21st century and all because you needed to keep them busy and safe throughout the summer. Wouldn’t that be something?
