There are times when we get so busy we just want to escape from everything and have some time for ourselves. Most people tend to overlook the importance of spending quality time on themselves due to responsibilities at work or in a family. However, there are many reasons why you should set aside time for yourself, even if it is just for a short while. It can help to increase your productivity and become more independent. So get away from your work, family and partner for some precious moment alone. Here are some me-time activities which you might enjoy.
1. Take a bath
Unwind and take a relaxing, quiet bath. Having a warm bath can also help relieve flu and improve blood circulation. We recommend doing this before you go to bed as it can help to sleep better through the night.
2. Indulge in your favourite food
Having good food is a great way to make myself feel better, and the same applies to many people. Order online and have them delivered to you so that you can enjoy your food at the comfort of your own home. If there is something you particularly like about your favourite restaurant, be it the ambience or the service, head down and enjoy your meal there. Make it a complete one by pairing your meal with your favourite drink and ending it off with a dessert.
3. Take a short nap
It is good for the mind and body to take a short break in the middle of the day. Even if you do not manage to fall asleep, just having a short rest of 15 minutes is good enough for the body to recharge itself and get you through the rest of the day. Having a good nap increases your alertness and helps you perform better.
4. Pamper yourself with a spa treatment
If you have budget to do so, indulge in a self-pampering spa service such as a facial, massage or hair treatment. Most spa parlours offer a range of services to cater to your needs in different areas, such as anti-stress, deep tissue and more, so you can pick what you need and let them do the work for you. Alternatively, you can go for a hair treatment. Walkout feeling more confident with shiny hair!
5. Sit down and write a journal
Sometimes we can be overwhelmed by little things that are happening in our lives and inevitably get stressed because there is always so much to do. Grab a journal and a pen to sort out your thoughts. Note down the things that are troubling you as well as what you can do to resolve these issues. Putting them down in words helps you to face these troubles more confidently and think straight about what you need to do.
After this step, we would also like you to write down things that you are grateful for. Gratitude is an important emotion that you need to feel and understand. Knowing what you have and being grateful for them will make you a better person, as well as planting positive thoughts in your mind.
6. Mask up and listen to music
Pamper your skin and soul by putting on a facial mask while listening to some relaxing music. This simple activity takes only 15-30 minutes, depending on the duration stated on your facial mask package. Since lying down is the best way for the essence to be absorbed into your skin, you can even take a nap at the same time. Just be sure to set an alarm to remind you that time is up, as having a mask on your face for too long can have adverse effects on the skin.
7. Read your favourite book
Remember that book that you were so hooked on that you cannot help but stay up all night to finish reading? Grab it and read it again while sipping on your favourite tea. Turn off any notification on your phone to avoid any distractions.
Reading a book can help to stimulate your imagination and lower your stress. Enter the world of the story during your time alone and forget about your troubles and responsibilities for the moment.
8. Exercise
Go for a jog around your neighbourhood, or if the weather doesn’t allow, doing yoga indoors is a good idea too. It is proven that exercising can make you feel happier due to the endorphins that are produced in the act of it. It also increases blood flow to your brain which can help you in focusing. Your body will feel better after sweating it out. End it off with a cool shower and you will feel more refreshed.
9. Retail Therapy
Pamper yourself and head to the malls for some retail therapy. Shopping leisurely can help to improve your mood and give you a sense of achievement when you come across something you really like and purchase it. It could be anything – a pair of new shoes or a piece of new clothing to improve your confidence; a new tin of premium tea to soothe your senses or a new range of skincare products to improve your well-being.
If you are not in the mood for going outdoors, you can also do it online as there are many platforms which host an endless number of shops and items where you are likely to have even more varieties to choose from.
Do not be stressed about having to spend money, because you have every right to reward yourself for you hard work. If you are worried about spending too much, set a budget for yourself before your shopping spree.
10. Listen to ASMR
ASMR is short for “autonomous sensory meridian response”, which is a sensation that occurs as a response to aural stimulation, such as the sound of whispering or scratching. This may not be for everyone, but some people love to play ASMR in the background as it gives them a sense of relaxation. If you have to tried, there is absolutely no harm in doing so and you might even fall in love with it.
